They also use analytics to help identify any weaknesses in a business’s marketing strategies and find ways to help improve the strategies across digital channels.


A small company may only have one specialist in while larger businesses may have several to work in different departments. When working in digital marketing, you can focus on one or two skills or be a jack-of-all-trades. This field is where a good internship or experience speaks volumes and offers you more job opportunities.   • SEO manager—you would need to have skills as an SEO expert to ensure that you can improve the business’s content. Your input would be used to keep the creators of content on target with valuable insight into the strategy that you required to enhance the performance of your website on Google. Your expert SEO skills would also apply to using social media.

  • Social media manager—in this position you would focus on social media by creating an effective schedule for posts. You would also oversee the posts and in some cases, you may create them. In this position, you could do a crossover with others such as content marketing specialists and digital marketers as part of the overall marketing strategy.

  • Content marketing specialist—you would be the creator of content and come up with a plan to increase traffic to your business’s website. You will also work to increase your Google ranking. You might create a plan on what material you want to use in a video, blog, or social media. You could work in the marketing department using the team’s SEO keywords or have an SEO manager to report to. In this job, you want to improve the effectiveness of the content of the website or social media.

  • Marketing automation coordinator—here you would deal with the results and effects of a marketing campaign. This position is more technically focused than other positions. You would be finding the best software to help discover important customer behaviours. You would track campaign performances.

  • Digital marketing manager—you would oversee the development of the overall content strategy. This also includes marketing campaigns. This person would be responsible for enhancing brand awareness, driving traffic to the company’s website to get new customers. You will also need to keep up to date with any new technology.
